Our What’s On This Month page is the ideal place to find out about events taking place in and around Swansea. Each month we publish details of the best activities in our vibrant city, some of which we attend as part of our Social Programme. As you can see, there are lots of things to see and do when you study at City School of Languages, Swansea.
If you are new to Swansea then why not take some time out to see the Gower? Whether exploring the Gower Moor and checking out the sheep and the stones or taking advantage of one of the many truly amazing beaches there is plenty to do. You will also find castles, wild horses, tiny villages to explore, caves and ruins.
If walking around in the possibly cold outdoors does not sound that appealing to you then perhaps you will be interested in some of the theatre events taking place in the city.
If not then maybe you would rather discover some of the fine local produce being produced in and around Swansea. These events are a great way to get a taste for community life and to learn about traditional crafts and trades -as well as supporting local growers and sampling food and drink you literally cannot get in the shops.
Swansea, as Wales' first Fair Trade city, has always had a reputation of caring, making the most of things and looking out for others. Swansea Council has recently launched a new service called Swap Shops, where you pick up for free someone else's unwanted items and swap them for your own clutter.
Bargain hunters beware - you could get lost in the details!

Swansea is a great place if you like the cinema. Enjoy our two commercial cinemas and the arts cinema at the university. The two commercial cinemas, the Odeon and the Vue, show all the new releases and the university cinema, Taliesin Arts, is ideal for lovers of less commercial films. Check what's on by visiting the Odeon, the Vue and the Taliesin websites.
Swansea has always had a long and fine tradition in theatre entertainment. With three theatres of different sizes across the city, there is no doubt a performance or style for everyone. This spring sees top-notch stand-up comedy from the likes of Jimmy Carr and Stephen K Amos. Check out the Chinese New Year Music Spectacular, the Welsh Young Singer of the Year competition, the superb Snow White on Ice and a stunning production of to Kill a Mockingbird. See Swansea Council's page on the Grand Theatre for more information.
As ever, Swansea's live music scene continues to swell. With venues aplenty, the following weeks will see all kinds of music represented. So whether you are into rock, drum 'n' bass, dubstep, folk, metal, punk, pop or anything else, there will no doubt be many nights to enjoy yourself or simply wind down from your studies.

Each year in August, close to the school, local performers gather and share their music with friends and strangers alike, playing at venues ranging from pubs, restaurants to out in the open. This is a chance to get involved in a music scene and play, make new friends and hear music you would never have heard otherwise. The same venues keep this friendly approach throughout the year and there are open mic nights for music all over the Uplands!

Most people are aware of at least some of Swansea's poetry-related history, usually because of its most famous son, Dylan Thomas. Before and after Thomas however, Swansea has always had Bardic connections. This continues today with both regular performances from some of the best poets in the world at the Dylan Thomas Centre, and local open mic nights for poetry and song around the city.
