How to apply

What You Need to Do Before You Come to School

European Economic Area Citizens or Swiss Nationals

If you are a European Economic Area Citizen or Swiss National you do not need a visa to study in the UK. We will however need the following information from you:

• A completed online application form (or see the Booking link to the right of each course to get onto this page)

• A completed enrolment form
• A copy of your passport or identity card

Once you have completed the online application form, we will answer any questions you have, then email you an enrolment form. You can scan and send a copy of your passport or identity card when you email this back to us or, alternatively, you can give it to us when you arrive in Swansea. If you have not read the terms and conditions by this point, then please do so carefully.

Ideally, we would like you to pay for the course beforehand, yet we are open to discussion about paying in instalments. You will, however, be asked to pay a £150 deposit (refundable on your first day at school) and £100 enrolment fee (£250 in total). Please look at How to Pay for more details.

You will also be expected to do a placement test on your first day so we can check your level and put you in the appropriate class.

Visa Nationals and Non-Visa Nationals - Tier 4 General Student Visa

Visa Nationals and Non-Visa Nationals fall into two categories.

Sponsored students

If you are a sponsored student and applying for a Tier 4 General Student Visa, we will need the following from you:

• A completed online application form (see the Booking link to the right of each course to get onto this page)

• A completed enrolment form

• A copy of your passport

• Proof of your language level. For this, please send us any certificates you have. Results of international exams such as IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge ESOL (KET, PET, FCE etc.) and certificates from former language schools are particularly good. We will also send you a placement test to complete. We need to do this to make sure you are at least an Elementary (A2 CEFR) student, the required level for a Tier 4 General Student visa.

Please note that the UKBA are currently introducing standardised tests to check student's levels. Please see the student's log in section on our website for more details.

• A letter from your sponsor stating that they will be financially responsible for you during your time in the UK.

• Proof of payment for your tuition fees, £150 deposit, £100 enrolment fee, accommodation or pick-up service costs into our bank account. This can be, for example, in the form of a receipt. See the Booking link to the right of each course page to work out how much this will be.

Once you have completed the online application form, we will answer any questions you have, then email you an enrolment form. Please complete this form and send us the above documents. Once we have received these documents, we can give you a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). You can then apply for a Tier 4 General Student visa to come to the UK.

It is important for visa purposes that you arrive on the agreed day, as we are responsible for your whereabouts. If this is not possible for some reason, please inform us beforehand. It is essential that we are aware of what is going on, and that you start your course as soon as you can. If we have not heard from you within ten working days, we are required to report your absence to the UKBA who will in turn cancel your visa.

For the above reasons, please keep us informed during your visa application. If you are experiencing difficulties and will not be able to start on the agreed date because you are not yet in the country, for example, it is important that we are aware of this. Please email a copy of your new visa and flight ticket to admin@cityschooloflanguages.co.uk if this situation occurs.

Non-sponsored students

If you are not a sponsored student, we will need the following from you:

• A completed online application form (see the Booking link to the right of each course to get onto this page)

• A completed enrolment form

• A copy of your passport

• Proof of your language level. We need to do this to make sure you at least a good Intermediate (B1 CEFR) student in order for you to go into Upper Intermediate/B2. This is the required level for a non-sponsored student Tier 4 General Student visa. Please contact us for more details.

• Proof of payment for your tuition fees, £150 deposit, £100 enrolment fee, accommodation or pick-up service costs into our bank account. This can be, for example, a receipt. See the Booking link to the right of each course page to work out how much this will be.
